About me

I’m Janet O’Malley, the ceramic artist behind JeLO Designs. I discovered pottery in my twenties and, though life sometimes pulled me away, I’ve always returned to the wheel. Like gravity to the earth, clay continues to draw me back.

In 2019, I fulfilled a longtime dream of building my very own pottery studio from the ground up. Working with both stoneware and porcelain clay, I create handmade pottery that is carefully carved, glazed, and fired to Cone 6, resulting in durable, functional ceramics designed for everyday use.

What began as a side hustle became my full calling in 2021, when I transitioned from a career in healthcare leadership to fully embrace life as a professional ceramic artist. Each piece I make — from hand-carved mugs and bowls to vases and functional pottery for the home — carries the same dedication to craftsmanship and detail.

In 2023, I began sharing my knowledge through teaching at Indigo Fire Pottery Studio. Guiding adults in their own clay journeys has been deeply rewarding, allowing me to foster creativity, pass on techniques, and inspire a lasting appreciation for the art of handmade ceramics.

My journey with clay has been one of persistence, growth, and gratitude. What began as a passion in my twenties has evolved into a lifelong calling — one that continues to open new doors. In 2023, I was honored by the Monson Arts Council at their 29th Annual Spring Art Exhibition with the Top Emerging Artist Award, a recognition that affirmed the dedication and artistry I pour into every piece. Whether through teaching, creating, or connecting with others through my work, I remain committed to sharing the beauty and function of handmade pottery with a wider community.
